Quick Facts
PolandThe Polish state was formed over 1,000 years ago. Many times Poland enjoyed great freedom and wealth. More than three-fourths of Poles adhere to the Roman Catholic Church. A mighty revival swept through Poland in the early 1900’s. Thousands of Poles were saved, and by 1920, a large number of believers reported being baptized in the Holy Spirit. After the Second World War Poland became a communist country. The Solidarity movement struggled for freedom and resulted in the defeat of Poland's communist rulers. In 1999 Poland acceded to NATO, and in 2004 it joined the European Union. The Movement TodayThe Kosciol Zielonoswiatkowy (a Pentecostal denomination) emerged from the United Evangelical Church of Poland which was comprised of five Protestants denominations during communism. It has three Bible schools with extensions programs training about 150 students and facilitates several ministries. Assemblies of God workers labor alongside this Pentecostal Church and report that about 300 ministers presently serve approximately 20,000 members and adherents in 191 churches and outstations. In addition, there are 20 extension Bible schools with 400 students enrolled and a church planting school that is currently starting 12 new churches in southwest Poland.
